Dre's Life of Music
Yoo, everyone!! I'm Dre'Kevan Thomas AKA "Dre", I'm a current student in the music diversity class. I've been around music every since I was little. I been around music in so many different places growing up such as church, home, car, and family events. Music has played a major role in my life and has got me through a lot. I also sing a little bit but around certain people I feel comfortable with and I wouldn't sing In front of the class!!
I came from a small town called McCormick, The city is made up of 4 gas stations,a hand full of restaurants, and 2 red lights. I've lived in McCormick since I could remember. McCormick is a town where there are very few little chances for opportunity but when you get the chance take it and run. That's why I'm at converse right now the opportunity came and took it.
The Music I like As of Now(my go to)
Over the course of graduating high school I started locking into my inner self. I'm an old school music type of person like Fantasia, Lyfe Jennings, Jagged Edge, etc. So over this summer I started listening more to my old school soul music and I got stuck on one song the whole time. The song is called "Player's Prayer" by an artist named Lloyd. The song just hit differently it really touched a part of me that I haven't engaged with in a while and brought back some old memories that were good while it lasted but didn't last long.
Music That Is Deeply Important To Me.
So growing up in my household we went to church almost every Sunday and if we wasn't going to church and you woke up hearing gospel music playing just get ready to clean all day and be stuck inside. I say all that to say this gospel music is something that hits home for me because some of us believe in the man above and there's many ways to praise him and gospel is one way. My mom was the very first person to get me stuck on gospel music because she would start singing out of nowhere and it was always a gospel song. But I have one gospel song that I feel tops all to me which is called "You Don't Know" by Zacardi Cortez the message in the song just tells you to never give up believe in the man above and he will make a way out of anything just keep faith.
Music I really Don't Connect With..
I really don't like classical music because I just never really understood the concept of it and what was the message behind it. It's also a little too complex for me because some of it tries to tell a story and sometimes I just don't understand what is going on. A major reason I don't like classical music is because it doesn't relate to modern life I really like listening to something I can relate too and actually understand first hand and with classical music I can't do that. The last thing I can think of why I don't really connect with it is because some of the classical music is too long and for what reason you can get your point across in a 3 minute video like most music today. But some people may like it but not me but everyone has different music taste. One example of classical music is Beethoven (Moonlight Sonata) Full.
Dre!!! I’m not gone lie, when I seen you posted Zacardi I just knew you know about church. I also grew up in church and that’s just a huge part of my life that I’ll NEVER be ashamed of. So, love that you can relate and with how he sings and his runs lol you definitely gotta sing it one time but it don’t got to be for the whole class unless you want!!!
